Some Facts About Solar Energy

Most of us already know the basics about solar energy – we take the sunlight from the sun and transform it into real, usable energy. Of course, there is a bit more to it -especially when we want to know how homemade solar panels really work.

So here is some information about solar energy and how it works to create energy for our homes.

Solar Energy Uses

1.For Our Homes

By converting the suns rays into electricity through solar panels -we can then power our appliances inside our home.

2.For Swimming Pools

By using solar thermal collectors, the suns energy is collected and then heats the water – usually for swimming pools.

3.For Heating Buildings

This methods makes use of Solar Thermal Collectors as well -although it is diverted into a hot air system that will heat entire buildings and even homes.

Solar Panels – How They Work

Here is the actual scientific process used to take the suns energy and convert that into the electricity that will power our homes appliances. Basically this is how the average , homemade solar panel will provide you with free – green energy on all those beautiful sunny days!

1.Solar Panels are  “Photovoltaic”- and when the sun rays hit the PV they are absorbed by the semi-conducting materials that are used in the solar panels- usually silicone -although there are other materials that work.

2.The way a PV or Solar Panel works, is to Knock the electrons loose from there atoms as the sun hits the solar panel. This is how they are able to flow through the material and produce electricity. Other wise known as,the Photovoltaic Effect.

3.After the DC electricity is formed, it then enters a inverter.

4.The inverter then turns the dc electricity into 120 Volt AC Electricity which is what is needed to power average home appliances.

5.Then – the AC power enters the utility Panel of the home.

6.Thats it – that sunlight that was once beeming out of the sky, is now powering home appliances in YOUR HOME.

But thats not everything. As we all know, the sun does not shine everyday. But – on an average day, we will see more sunlight than we could ever use. That means, we should save the extra energy for those cloudy days and for night time as well.

Thats when we need to use batteries for saving energy. Make sure to set your solar panels and battery together – so that they will ALWAYS work together to provide you with constant energy. Not to mention – our solar energy will be available during blackouts and bad weather storms too.

As you can see, solar energy is simply a form of science and invention. And building our own solar panels is not hard. It can even be done for under $200 – but its NOT just about the money. Its not even all about using green Energy either.

When we use Solar Panels and create OUR OWN energy -we are INDEPENDENT. And that is  GREAT feeling.
