Its like I turned into this super energy saving guy. I mean, its not like I didnt save a noticeable amount of money after I installed my solar panels- but I became addicted.
I want to get my energy bills down to nothing!(Or as close as possible)
Tips For Saving Energy
One of the easiest things for us to do, is to cut back on things. Like leaving the lights off as long as possible -definitely make sure you ALWAYS turn the lights off when you leave a room. But something that people often do not think off, is the shower.
- Cut Down Shower Times - Many times we stay in the shower long after we need. I used to spend a MANDATORY 20 minutes in the shower -no matter what. But once I realized that I could take a COMPLETE shower in just 7-10 minutes -I made it a priority to NEVER take a shower longer than 10 minutes. Trust me, these kind of things add up over time. You WILL save money throughout the year.
- Unplug Space Heaters -many people see a huge gas bill and think -”Oh man, better use space heaters to save money.” -But thats NOT wise. In case you didnt know, Gas is far more expensive than electricity. So try not to lean on the space heaters too much. Do not leave them on in a room that your not in and stuff like that.
- Use CFL Lightbulbs – Many times we see that the Green and Energy Efficient products, like light bulbs, are more expensive than the regular products. BUT – not only do they use FAR LESS energy, but they last more than TWICE AS LONG. And its these everyday changes that will make the biggest difference. And once you start doing things liek this, it will be easier for you to keep on doing these things from now on.
- Install Programmable Thermostat – Many of us already have automatic or programmable thermostats -but if you dont, you should. Without them, we waste alot of energy. They are NOT that expensive, at all. And they are very simple to install. And some places will even install them for you.
These are just a few ideas for saving money throughout the year.
I know that they seem like some simple looking ideas – but until you USE THEM, you will be letting your money slip right through the cracks and you will NEVER GET IT BACK.
The main reason why I started with these, is because they ARE simple. There is very little sacrifice with them – maybe a shorter shower , but thats nothing compared to what you will save -and how you will FEEL after you begin to see results.
I hope that these tips are helpful -and make sure you atleast give them a try. If you start to use them on a daily basis, you will find your own little tips an tricks for cutting back.
